According to a recent report by an analytics firm, the popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile was the top-grossing game in terms of overall revenue, while video sharing service TikTok was the top-grossing app in terms of overall revenue and on the Apple App Store.
According to data published by analytics firm Sensor Tower in its latest report, the top-grossing app and game in the world for Q3 2021 are popular video-sharing service TikTok and battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (or PUBG Mobile). Spending on apps has increased year over year, and revenue collected by these apps increased in Q3. It's worth noting that TikTok and PUBG Mobile, as well as a number of other apps that were removed from the country's Play Store and Apple App Store last year due to security concerns, are still banned in the country.
According to a Sensor Tower report that tracked app spending in the third quarter, TikTok saw a 41 percent year-over-year increase this quarter, while PUBG Mobile saw an 11 percent year-over-year increase. However, the money spent on premium apps, subscriptions, and in-app purchases does not stop there. Spending on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store combined increased by over 15% year over year to $33.6 billion. According to the report, spending on both the App Store (13.2%) and the Play Store (18.6%) increased, despite the fact that spending on iOS was higher at $21.5 billion compared to Android's $12.1 billion.
While TikTok was the highest-grossing app in both overall revenue and on the App Store in Q3 2021, the top app on the Play Store was the Google One app. Piccoma manga reader, YouTube, Google One, Disney+, Tinder, Tencent Video, iQIYI, Line Manga, and HBO Max are among the top ten apps in terms of overall revenue. In the third quarter, however, TikTok remained the most downloaded app, beating out Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger.
Meanwhile, PUBG Mobile was the highest-grossing game in terms of overall revenue, with spending up 11%. As a result, the game was able to outperform competitors such as Genshin Impact, Honor of Kings, Roblox, and Pokemon Go. Sensor Tower also includes downloads and earnings from Game for Peace, which is a Chinese-only version of PUBG Mobile that has been modified to comply with local laws. However, compared to the same quarter last year, game downloads were down this quarter, and games like My Talking Angela 2, Subway Surfers Count Masters, and Garena Free Fire were among the most popular in Q3 2021, according to the report.
